45 Caliber Antique Ammo
Frankford Arsenal – Dated 1878
Frankford Arsenal Cartridges
This ammunition box is U.S. Military 45 Caliber antique ammo from the Frankford Arsenal. First of all, these are “Revolver Ball” cartridges. Therefore, these cartridges were shorter and less powerful than the standard .45 “Long” Colt ammo. As a result, these shorter cartridges will accommodate use in the S & W Schofield, as well as the Colt Single Action revolver.
These Frankford Arsenal manufactured .45 caliber cartridges were produced for the Cavalry during the Indian Wars on the Western Frontier. At this time, the cartridges came in 12 pack boxes from the arsenal and were dated the year of manufacture. Accordingly, this box is dated 1878 and marked “Revolver Ball Cartridges, Calibre .45.”
This excellent condition antique ammunition box is UNOPENED. Also, the box is covered with a water proof varnish coating which was common to this vintage. Furthermore, the printing on this box remains clear and legible.
Covered with plastic wrap for protection.
Note: Also, we have other dated 12 packs in our inventory. Please contact us for photos and prices if you are interested.
