A late Civil War era Colt 1851 Navy Military rig. The belt is an officer’s sword belt with the heavy stamped Pattern 1851 buckle/belt plate.

The belt is an officer’s sword belt with the heavy stamped Pattern 1851 buckle/belt plate. It shows a double sling and dismounted hook. Inked on the back (inside) is: “W. S. Mo?? 4th U. S. Arty“. The holster is a civilian flap holster to accommodate Colts 1851 Navy revolver. This type of holster was used from the introduction of the Colt 1851 Navy revolver to beyond the end of the Civil War. The holster is well constructed of medium weight harness leather, retaining the original toe plug.

The belt plate is tarnished, showing only traces of the original gilt and no makers markings.

Both the belt and holster are in excellent condition with no rips, tears or damage what-so-ever to the leather. All the stitching in both, is original and fully intact.  Also, the leather is supple. They both show a beautiful smooth shiny black military finish.
