Historical Info, Photo & Accouterments Included
This Colt 1849 revolver is inscribed “REV CHAS EVANS, SAN FRANCISO 1868”. It includes a photo of Charles Evans, a cap tin, and a powder horn flask.

THE GUN is a Colt Model 1849 revolver with a 6” barrel. The serial number is 262753 made in 1864. All the serial numbers are on all the parts, in the appropriate locations, including the wedge. It has period ivory grips that appear to have always been on this gun.
Revolver Condition
The gun is in good overall condition and mechanically sound. It shows an overall grey mottled finish with some silver plating still showing at the top of the backstrap, above the inscription. The inscription on the backstrap “Rev Chas Evans, San Fransico 1868” is fully readable. As well as all the other markings on the gun. The gun shows hard use and the ivory grips show a dark patina with cracklature at the bottom. The bore still shows good rifling with typical black powder erosion. The gun shows years of use, starting with the Civil War.
AMBROTYPE photo of Charles Evans is included in this grouping. It is in an original Civil War era type frame, measuring 2 ½” x 3”. It is in very good condition. Although the cover is missing. The photo is very sharp and clear.

CAP TIN measuring 2 ½” in diameter, marked “California Cap Co. San Francisco”. There is no side labeling present and no other markings on the tin. It shows a rust brown finish and a roaring lion on the lid. It contains antique caps and cast bullets, both round and mini.
POWDER HORN is period made without any markings. It is in good overall condition with no damage or losses. The leather shoulder strap appears original to the period with a handmade leather device attached for carrying something???
Family History
The following is the handed down family history that has followed the assemblage;
Charles Evans was a 1st Lieutenant Volunteer Army Officer. While he never saw the battlefield, he guarded Confederate soldiers in prisoner of war camps during the Civil War. After the war he went to San Francisco to complete seminary to become a preacher. Some years later he moved to Oklahoma with his wife until his early passing at age 45. A very neat Civil War era, and past, assemblage of a preacher, obviously not to be messed with. PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS THE AMMO.
