History: Albert Furstnow
Albert Furstnow started working for J.S. Collins Saddlery in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1882. His talent in leather work eventually led to being promoted to shop foreman. In 1884 he opened his own shop in Miles City, Montana. He became world famous for his high-quality saddles and sold them all over the world. In 1919 Al moved with his family to Los Angeles, California where he set up another shop in Hollywood. The Hollywood location catered mostly to the growing movie industry and there are few examples with his “Hollywood” marking. About 1918, Edward Bolin arrived in America from Sweden and became good friends with Al Furstnow, until Al’s death in 1925. Al helped Bolin start his own saddlery business in Cody, Wyoming. Bolin mirrored his workshop set-up like Al’s shop in Miles City. Al’s shop in Hollywood closed shortly after his death.
