A nice Colt Artillery Holster.  This is a U.S. marked 1881 Pattern Holster, arsenal modified for a Colt Artillery Single Action revolver with a 5 ½” barrel. 

The Holster – Condition

The holster shows the original large belt flap to accommodate the military prairie belts from the Indian Wars era. It is in very good condition with all the original stitching intact as well as the toe plug.

The leather is supple, showing no losses or damage. The “US” shows prominently on the front of the pouch and the black shiny finish is now a mottled texture. “L8” & “3” are stamped on the outside of the flap, but no other marks are present.

A nice hard to find regulation holster showing use and wear, but no damage.
