Antique 44-40 Ammunition

Winchester Brand

Circa Late 1870’s – Early 1880’s

A seldom encountered and extremely difficult to find antique 44-40 ammunition box. A rare box in the first issue of the popular third style black powder box.  In fact, these Winchester boxes are very desirable to collectors. They are always in great demand because of the “old-time” graphics. For instance, a picture of a Model 73’ carbine is shown on the front side label and has old style lettering. The labels specify that the cartridges are for a “Winchester Rifle Model 1873”.

Most noteworthy, is the unheadstamped cartridge pictured on this box.  This is the all-important factor in determining the age and rarity of an otherwise common box.  In short, this is the earliest known packaging with this style of graphics.

A great box of antique ammo that is rarely found.  For that reason, this ammo would display nicely with an early Winchester 73′ or Colt SAA.

Covered with plastic wrap for protection.
