Old West Rig
Circa 1890’s
A beautiful old west rig from the 1890’s. It will accommodate a Colt .44 SAA with a 7 ½” barrel, with .44 caliber cartridge loops and large caliber rifle cartridges.
THE HOLSTER is a custom made, one-of-a-kind, with an extra-large skirt. It’s a “California Style” contoured pouch with hand tooling at the top. The skirt is very large, 8” wide, with 2” wide border stamping around the edges. The holster loop is a 3/8” wide strip of leather laced straight across at the top and bottom and crisscrossed (3 times) across the center. The rough side of the holster body leather is covered with a suede leather liner, from the skirt back, over the top and into the holster pouch. The holster is in very good condition, fully intact, showing some pistol wear to the suede liner in the pouch. Also, the leather has shrunk over time and the Colt SAA fits tight into the holster.
THE BELT is a cartridge MONEY belt, for .44 caliber pistol bullets and large caliber rifle cartridges. It’s made of heavy harness leather with no damage or losses. It shows old period re-stitching at the top seam of the $ belt that is still fully intact. The rifle cartridges in the photos are .30-40 Krag. The belt is 3 ½” wide x 35” long, showing a crude period shortening at the tongue end with crude hand stitching. The original buckle shows about 40% of its nickel plate, the remainder is an oxidized brown/rust color. The belt is overall very good condition showing period use with just some shrinkage of the bullet loops.
This is an outstanding rig and was made for a discriminating cowboy or law-man and is truly a one-of-a-kind holster and belt form the old west.
**44-40 bullets, 30-40 Krag rifle cartridges and Colt SAA in photos are not included.
