Massive Cartridge Belt Rig
For a Large Frame Revolver
Circa 1880’s
A massive cartridge belt rig with two rows (96 loops) for .44 caliber bullets. The holster is of the same era with nice floral tooling. The rig shows lots of use and old turn-of-the century period resewing, but is still in overall good condition.

THE BELT is a huge MONEY BELT, 4 ½” wide x 36” long. It shows no makers or catalog markings and appears to be a custom, one-of-a-kind, saddlers made belt. The belt has two rows of .44 caliber cartridge loops, 50 on the top and 46 on the bottom. Along with, two buckles and two tongue chapes.
Belt Condition
The nickel-plated buckles show corrosion with about 50% of the original nickel remaining. The leather is supple with no losses. The cartridge loops and belt show old period re-sewing. About 4 or 5 of the loops are broken and some others are fragile, showing old stitching seams in different locations. Also, the upper loops show the most shrinkage and damage. Whereas, most of the lower loops will still take a .44 caliber bullet. This is a very unique cartridge belt for sure.

THE HOLSTER is an early, beautifully tooled, double loop holster for a S&W Model #3 American with a 7 ½” or 8” barrel. It will accommodate most any other large frame revolvers with an 8” barrel of the same era. It shows no maker marks or catalog numbers.
Holster Condition
The tooling is nicely accomplished with wide rolled border tooling on the pouch and skirt. In addition, it shows the original “Cheyenne” style toe plug. All the original stitching is present and solid and the leather shows no losses. The tooled surfaces show minor age induced cracking, but is still pliable and supple. Also, an additional piece of leather has been added to the rough back side of the skirt, over the top, and into the upper portion of the pouch. It was done to strengthen the areas around the loops. It is stitched in place with all of the thread still retained. The addition was very well done and adds a professional finish to the look of the holster. A great looking holster in very good condition.

A very uncommon rig from the old west.
**S&W Model #3 and .44-40 caliber cartridges in photos not included.
