Antique 44-40 Ammo
Winchester Brand, Circa early 1880’s
A very nice Antique 44-40 Ammo box. It is a first issue of the popular third style black powder box that is seldom encountered. These Winchester boxes are very desirable to collectors and are always in great demand because of the “old-time” graphics. A picture of a Model 1873 carbine is shown on the front side label. The labels specify that the cartridges are for a “Winchester Rifle Model 1873”. The un-headstamped cartridge pictured on this box is the all-important factor in determining the age and rarity of an otherwise common box.
Antique .44-40 Ammo
This box of .44-40 Central Fire, black powder cartridges is in very good condition. It has been OPENED on three sides and contains all the original cartridges that are in very good untouched condition. The top green label shows one rub spot and minor age soiling. Otherwise, it is in fine condition. Also, all of the side labeling is present, and in good condition. Both top and bottom of the box is solid, the lid showing a professional seam repair at the top left corner. Inside the lid is the original re-loading label in good readable condition.
It is a great looking box, showing the Winchester 73” carbine on the front side wrap. These Winchester .44 WCF full boxes are getting harder to find and are very much in demand.
