Winchester 44 S&W American
Circa 1920
A full Winchester 44 S&W American box of ammo, circa 1920. These are the cartridges that were used in 1866 Winchester rifles and carbines, as well as early Colt .44 rimfire pistols, that were period converted to center fire.
Ammo Box Condition
The box is a later 2-piece buff box with a green top label and orange colored over wrap labels on the ends. The box has been OPENED and contains all the original cartridges. The top green label is very good with just a few rubs and a ¾” gouge at the right bottom. The orange end labels are all intact and fully readable, including the guarantee on the bottom. The box is solid, showing multiple, well done, split seam repairs. There is an old scotch taped seam on the bottom back of the box. The box also shows ragged edges and corners, but all the parts of the box are original to the box.
The cartridges are in very fine condition. One of the last black powder boxes made by Winchester. These Winchester brand boxes of 44 S&W American are seldom encountered.
A nice box to display with a 44 rimfire rifle or pistol that has been converted to center fire.
