Prescott AZ Marked Holster
and Hand Made Cartridge Belt
Circa 1920
A great piece of antique gun leather is our Prescott AZ Marked Holster.
A very rare, beautifully hand tooled, single loop holster for a Colt Single Action revolver with a 7 ½” barrel. The holster is maker marked “Arizona Saddlery Co., Prescott Ariz”, on the bottom of the back side of the pouch.
The Holster
This particular holster would be one of the earlier ones, displaying the larger skirt of that era. A Colt 7 ½” SAA fits perfect and rides high in the holster. Great for displaying an engraved gun. This holster may have been specially ordered for just that purpose as it is certainly a one of a kind.
Cartridge Belt
The cartridge belt is a hand made “bunkhouse” belt. It is well made and matches the holster in color and vintage. The belt is 3” wide x 40” long, completely hand sewn, including the cartridge loops. It also shows a semi-fancy nickel-plated buckle. Both pieces are black in color and retain all the original rawhide and cotton stitching. The overall condition is excellent, showing light use and no abuse.
History
Frank Olzer established Arizona Saddlery in Prescott in 1918 and was in business up until 1936. Frank was previously trained, and worked in Gillette, Wyoming and was known as one of the finest saddle makers in the west. In the 50 years I have been collecting, this is only the second single action holster I have come across with this makers mark.
Toy gun & .44-40 cartridges in photos not included.
