Winchester Belt & Catalog Holster
for a Colt SAA 5-1/2″ Barrel
Circa 1880’s
A great piece of antique gun leather is our Winchester Belt & Catalog Holster.
This is a frontier era Winchester web belt with an “Olive” catalog holster for a Colt Single Action revolver with a 4 ¾” or 5 ½” barrel, circa 1880’s.
THE BELT is a rare early Winchester cartridge belt, circa 1880’s. This is a web belt, made for Winchester by Anson Mills. The belt is 3” wide x 40” long, length adjustable. The brass plate (buckle) is marked “Winchester” in an oval and shows the Anson Mills marking on the back side. It has 50 bullet loops for .40 – .45 caliber rifle or pistol cartridges. Overall, the condition is very good, showing use and some soiling. The cartridge loops are all intact. However, one loop is just showing ½” of fraying at the bottom. Also, the plate is excellent, showing a nice patina.
THE HOLSTER is for a Colt Single Action revolver with a 4 ¾” or 5 ½” barrel. It is a catalog holster, marked “Olive” & “326 CA” on the single loop and shows their typical lightly pressed border tooling with sun flowers stamped at the corners. Also, the border tooling is on the pouch and the skirt. The holster shows a large brass spot at the top where some replaced stitching is loose and a crack in the leather. Also, there is a slight tear at the top where the hammer is and a ¼” hole on the back of the skirt. The rest of the stitching is good and appears to be original. It is a very dark brown, almost black, in color.
A great looking old rig with a rarely encountered Winchester web belt in overall very good condition, showing frontier use.
**Toy gun & .405 cartridges in photos not included.
