44 Long Rimfire Ammo
Winchester Brand, Circa 1870’s
A full OPENED box of 44 long rimfire ammo. It is an early Winchester brand box, circa 1870’s.
Antique 44 Rimfire Ammo
These cartridges were originally for rifles, but were also accepted by early Colt rimfire pistols. Specifically Open Tops and Single Action Armies chambered for .44 rimfire. They would fit any pistol with a bored through cylinder, but not rifles and carbines chambered for .44 Henry. After the .44-40 cartridge was introduced, the rimfire .44 longs faded from use.
This is a full box of original cartridges, all marked with the “H” head stamp. They are the typical copper cases with “flat” bullets. The cartridges are in excellent condition. The box is in good condition with a nice top green label. Although, the box shows some scuffs and edge wear. The top right side is missing. The box shows repaired seam splits. Otherwise, it is in good solid condition. These early boxes are kind of rare and when found are usually pretty ratty.
This one shows well and looks good. It would display nicely with a Colt Open Top or Single Action Army in rimfire caliber.
Covered with plastic wrap for protection.
