S&W Model #3 Holster

Circa 1880’s

An early, beautifully tooled, double loop S&W Model #3 Holster, for the American model with an 8” barrel.

It will also accommodate most other large frame revolvers with an 8” barrel of the same era. It shows no maker marks or catalog numbers. The tooling is nicely accomplished with wide rolled border tooling on the pouch and skirt.

It shows the original “Cheyenne” style toe plug. All the original stitching is present and solid and the leather shows no losses. The tooled surfaces show minor age induced cracking.  However, are still pliable and supple. An additional piece of leather has been added to the rough back side of the skirt, over the top, and into the upper portion of the pouch, to strengthen the areas around the loops. It is stitched in place with all of the thread still retained.

The addition was very well done and adds a professional finish to the look of the holster. It’s a great looking holster in very good condition.

Holsters for early S&W Model #3 Americans with 8” barrels are not commonly found. This is a nice one!
